USW 3rds battled hard but slipped to a narrow defeat against UWE 4ths at the Sport Park.
The home side started stronger, but conceded an early goal when Carhan McCartney scored from 40 yards out with a brilliant chip over goalkeeper Floran Disco in the seventh minute.
Both sides came close to scoring in an even first-half, but in injury time USW equalised when Harrison Appleby’s right-foot shot crept in.
Within five minutes of the second half starting, Dassy Soh put UWE back in the lead with a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner.
But the USW response was immediate with Woody Scott hitting the back of the net in the 52nd minute.
At 2-2, both sides threatened a third goal and in the 55th minute McCartney found himself in a great position only to be ruled offside.
In the 71st minute, though, he was not to be denied. McCartney’s decisive strike came from the penalty spot – and Disco never stood a chance.
USW had chances to equalise but just couldn’t convert.
USW’ face Cardiff (Medics) 5ths, away, on Dec 4 in their next game. UWE’s next game isn’t until the 11th of December, away to Bath Spa 1sts.
