Luke Littler silences Cardiff crowd for first Premier League Night win of 2026

By Sam Hill at the Utilita Arena

Luke Littler produced a sensational performance to claim his first nightly victory of the 2026 Premier League Darts season in Cardiff.

The World No.1 defeated Wales’ top two players Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton en route to victory to silence a partisan Welsh crowd at the Utilita Arena, landing two magnificent 170 finishes on his way to picking up the maximum five points.

Littler’s Route to Victory

The Nuke started his evening with a 6-4 victory over Josh Rock in the fourth quarter-final, despite the Northern Irishman having the higher average of 103.72.

Littler had an average of 96.20, more than seven less of his opponent but his superior finishing saw him progress at 40% (6/15), in comparison to Rock’s 21.05% (4/19). This finishing proved costly for the reigning World Cup champion who remains pointless after five nights on his debut campaign.

The back-to-back World Champion then delivered his strongest performance of the campaign so far to dump out Wales’ Gerwyn Price 6-3. He averaged 111.05 and landed a 170 finish to wrap up the victory to quieten the raucous Cardiff faithful who firmly got behind The Iceman all evening.

Littler continued that strong momentum into the final against Jonny Clayton, averaging 106.44 to claim a 6-4 win to crash the Welsh party in the capital.

He landed another spectacular 170 finish in this contest, while also narrowly missing double 15 for a nine-darter in Cardiff in two consecutive years which would have capped an extraordinary night for the 19 year old.

Quarter-Final Roundup

In the opening quarter-final, World No.2 Luke Humphries swept aside Michael van Gerwen 6-1 in a dominant display. The Dutchman was afforded just one shot at the outer ring in the final five legs as Humphries powered to victory from there.

Jonny Clayton lit up the Utilita Arena by overcoming Gian van Veen 6-4 in what was a top of the table clash heading into Cardiff. This maintained his perfect record in quarter-final matches in this campaign so far, the only player to do so after five nights.

The party continued for the home faithful in the following quarter-final as Gerwyn Price survived a match dart to edge a nail-biting contest with Stephen Bunting 6-5.

The Iceman was not at his best, while Bunting posted the higher average but found a way as the crowd erupted following him landing victory.

Littler then completed the semi-final line-up with his victory over Rock to set up a blockbuster final four with the World’s top two facing over against Wales two-time World Cup winning duo.

Semi-Finals and Final

In the first semi-final, Clayton produced a controlled performance to defeat Luke Humphries 6-4 in their first ever Premier League meeting, keeping the Welsh hopes alive in Cardiff.

However, it was Littler who stole the show in the second semi-final to power past Price 6-3 with a magnificent 111.05 average, to deny the crowd their dream all-Welsh final.

The teenage sensation continually outscored Price, not allowing him a moment to settle in the contest. Therefore, the Welshman was afforded just four darts at the outer ring, to his credit he pinned three of those.

In the final, it was the highest quality contest of the evening with Littler prevailing against Clayton 6-4.

Littler averaged 106.44 to Clayton’s 100.90 in a game which featured eleven maximums, ultimately it was the Warrington thrower who held his nerve at the end to silence those Welsh boos.

League Table Implications

Despite neither Welshman landing the nightly victory on home soil, the pair leave the Welsh capital sitting at the top of the standings.

Clayton leads the way in first having racked up 14 points, a five point gap at the top having won every one of his quarter-finals so far this season.

Price sits second on nine points, level with Littler who jumps from seventh to third following his first nightly victory of the campaign.

Gian van Veen holds the final play-off spot, while he is level on nine points with both Price and Littler, he is yet to win a night therefore sits below them.

Michael van Gerwen has fallen out of the play-off spots for the first time this season after not tasting victory across the last three nights despite a strong start. While, Luke Humphries remains in sixth despite picking up two points tonight taking his tally to six points.

Stephen Bunting sits seventh on five points, despite a nightly victory in Belfast last week, he has had four quarter-final exits in five nights.

Elsewhere, Josh Rock remains at the foot of the table on debut with zero points, the Northen Irishman still yet to settle on the big stage.

Looking Ahead

Littler’s victory was certainly overdue, the World No.1 without a nightly victory in the opening four nights and entered the Utilita Arena in seventh place.

A maximum five points this evening sees him move into third in the table and firmly back in the box seat for a place at the O2 for finals night in May.

The Premier League continues next week in Nottingham for Night 6 as the battle for the top four remains wide open with now a fifth different nightly winner in five nights.
