Cardiff Devils coach Pete Russell insists his side has more to offer after watching them earn a dominant win against champions Sheffield Steelers.
Devils have a five point lead at the top of the Elite League standings, but Russell says his charges have far from peaked.
“I don’t think we’ve seen the best of the Cardiff Devils yet, I think there’s more to come for this group,” said Russell post-game.
“We had a lot of jump, I thought we won every race, every battle.
“The big thing for this team is that they turn up for the big games.
“They showed how good a group they are.
“Sheffield are a really good team, they’re a great team. We are all trying to get closer to them.”
The reaction from Steelers boss Aaron Fox was very different. Fox accused his players of producing “panic hockey” and said they were out of the contest well before the end.
“We played tight and played panic hockey tonight,” said Fox.
“It obviously was not good enough, the game’s over in the first 25 minutes.”
Fox conceded the Devils outfought his team, saying: “The group (the Devils) has the intensity which they were looking for and we just didn’t match that early on. They won every race and every battle.”
Fox promised his team a video-nasty was heading their way.
He added: “This will be a pretty ugly video session for us on Friday, but we’ve got to move past it.”
