UWE mens’ lacrosse completed an inspired comeback to beat USW 4-3 in a very tense varsity affair.
Goals from Archie Fletcher (2), Elliot Keynes and Neil Webb were enough to complete a brilliant fightback for the visitors in a feisty affair at the Sport Park.
In what was a close opening quarter to the game it took nine minutes for the visiting team to open the scoring thanks to a marvellous bit of play from Fletcher who finished from close range.
Just two minutes later the hosts scored thanks to brilliant skill from Sam Andrews to get away from his marker and strike home off the crossbar.
USW made another breakthrough just moments later as a lovely cut-in from the left hand side from Andrews allowed the attacker acres of space to beat the UWE goalkeeper.
The second quarter sparked even more feistiness between the two teams, but USW proved more dominant and in the 29th minute claimed a third thanks to Zack Price.
The third quarter would saw most of the action concentrated in the middle of the pitch, but at the very start of the fourth quarter Keynes finished superbly to reduce the deficit to 3-2.
Just over 10 minutes later the visitors levelled thanks to an inspired finish from Fletcher whose long range effort went in off the post.
A close-range finish from senior player Webb was enough to finish the game for UWE.
