Famara Diedhiou’s 30th minute goal was enough for Cardiff City to beat Huddersfield 1-0 and move the Bluebirds up to 10th place in the Championship.
The game started with an early Huddersfield chance inside the box. Some good work on the left-wing by Delano Burgzorg produced a cross which Ben Wiles put over the bar from cross range.
Cardiff slowly grew into the game with some fluid attacking play. In the 16th minute Karlan Grant did well to keep his powerful shot on target and force Terriers keeper Lee Nicholls into a save down to his right.
Huddersfield responded, with Welshman Sorba Thomas, proving to be a bright spark. His deep cross was met powerfully by Brodie Spencer at the back post but his header was comfortably saved by Bluebirds ‘keeper Ethan Horvath.
City found the opener on the half-hour mark with Diedhiou getting his first goal for the club in seven appearances since joining in January.
A great switch by Ryan Wintle was brought down well by Josh Bowler whose cross allowed Diedhiou to finish.
Just after the half-time break Huddersfield found themselves in a dangerous position as Jack Rudoni headed over from within the City six yard box.
After a comfortable 15-minute spell City remained on top and in control. However, temperatures started to boil over on the pitch with Perry Ng seeing yellow for a tussle in the box.
The 69th minute saw a change for Cardiff as Ruben Colwill was brought on for Diedhiou and the young Welsh international injected some creativity into the Bluebirds’ attacking play.
In the 81st minute Colwill forced Nicholls into a save after a powerful run into the box.
In the last five minutes of normal play the Terriers almost grabbed an equaliser through Ex- Cardiff striker Danny Ward.
Thomas once again delivered a magnificent ball to the back post to Jaheim Headley, whose downward header fell to Ward to put wide from just five yards out.
The Bluebirds had the last chance of the game as Colwill saw his 25-yard free-kick go just over the crossbar.
Cardiff will be hoping to make it four wins in a row against difficult opposition as they face second in the league Ipswich at home on Saturday.
