USW 5ths coach Dan Kelly admitted his players were motivated by revenge after they thrashed the 4ths at the Sport Park to claim their first win of the season.
In a fiery clash that featured red cards for 5ths’ Jacob Sykes and Ceiron Williams and a glut of yellows, a consolation penalty from Dylan Martin was not enough for the 4ths to claw back a result following four 5ths goals which included a halfway-line stunner from Fabio Dias.
Kelly said: “We wanted to get our own back after they beat us in the first game of the season.
“We came in, wanted to win and gave it 100%
“We told our players to get at them from minute one. Win the first ball, win the second ball and win the 50/50s.”
Kelly insisted his side had “dominated” their opposition and was elated with their performance. He also refused to criticise those who were shown cards of either colour.
“All the cards coming out of the referee’s pocket… we dealt with it the right way,” said Kelly.
“We sat and waited for them to create their own mistakes.”
”Once we had the lead, we sat back until the final whistle and saw out the win.”
