Preview: Barry Town United v Caernarfon Town

by Ethan Harris

BARRY Town United are sitting pretty at the top of the JD Cymru Premier as they prepare to face Caernarfon Town at the Oval.

The Linnets come into the tie following a 2-0 win over Airbus UK Broughton, with a game in hand on those chasing the league leaders.

A second-half flurry was enough to secure the three points, as Kayne McLaggon converted from the spot to put the hosts ahead and Drew Fahiya converted late into injury time to seal the victory.

Defence has been the name of the game for Gavin Chesterfield’s side, their unbeaten run in the league strongly linked with their solidity at the back as they boast the least amount of goals conceded this season.

The Canaries have had their own positive start to their league campaign, sat in 4th following their 2-0 win over Carmarthen Town last weekend.

Goals from Leo Smith and Darren Thomas saw them past the Old Gold in comfortable fashion on home turf.

Although Barry will be an altogether different test for Sean Eardley’s side.

The hosts will be wary of the Linnets strong start to the season, and despite their own league standing they will know they head into this game facing a strong opponent in good form.

A win over The New Saints earlier this season will give them hope of a repeat performance against one of the tougher match-ups this year, and if they can find a goal early they will be in good stead to secure three points on the day.

Maximum points for the Canaries will keep them in fourth spot for the weekend, nudging ever closer towards the top of the tree heading into November’s fixtures.

Meanwhile, victory for the Linnets would sustain their lead at the top of the league, depending on results with The New Saints today.

Expect a closely contested clash in this one, with some important results deciding who goes top this weekend.
