University of South Wales 2nds opened their Western 3B campaign with a comfortable 5-1 victory over Swansea 3rds at the Sport Park
The home side took a 3-0 into half time thanks to goals from Marcus Hogbakken, Cullen Rodgers and Dids Essein.
Swansea responded in the second half through Jack Blunsden, but were never really in it.
Second half strikes from Andreas Letelci and Corey Mckerry sealed three well deserved points for the Treforest-based side.
The opening stages of the match saw little opportunity for both sides.
The first chance did come in the 17th minute, when a ball from USW’s Ronan Whalley found Frederick Stevens. As a result, Stevens’ cross almost found Hogbakken.
The deadlock was finally broken just after the half hour. A threatening corner by Rodgers resulted in Swansea keeper Will Grey not clearing the ball and Hogbakken tapping in.
Six minutes later, USW doubled their advantage thanks to Rodgers who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom left corner.
USW were playing with their tails up by this stage and soon added a third. Rodgers was again involved, managing to send a fantastic ball to Essein who made no mistake.
With just under 20 minutes left, Swansea got on the scoreboard thanks to a composed finish by Blunsden from close range.
But the game was then settled when Letelci finished after fantastic play between Mckerry – who later added a fifth — and Rodgers.
