UNIVERSITY of South Wales sports therapist, Ashleigh Griffiths, is an ever-present part of the Men’s 1st backroom staff.
Clearly delighted by the side’s BUCS Championship win, she is the only woman in the coaching set up at USW. Her role involves assessing, treating and rehabilitating sports injuries and providing emergency first aid during matches or training sessions.
She is a familiar face around the first team and shared in the jubilant scenes at Basford United’s Greenwich Avenue stadium in Nottingham.
“They always put in 100%. They’ve worked their socks off. I’m massively proud of them all,” she said.
“You’re like another mother to them sometimes, so it is quite nice to see them achieve something like that. They do all the work, I just help them along.”
Griffiths undertakes the same role at Barry Town United FC.
A University of Gloucestershire graduate, she was part of the medical physiotherapy services team in both the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
