Cardiff City’s resilience and clinical finishing paid off as they saw off Huddersfield Town to remain top of the league.
Yousef Salech’s brace and Isaak Davies’ goal was enough to secure the three points for the Bluebirds and a third successive League One victory.
Cardiff piled on plenty of pressure on Huddersfield’s back line in the opening minutes of the game.
That pressure paid off only six minutes in, when striker Salech scored with a simple but well-executed header after Joel Bagan’s cross on the overlap.
Huddersfield wasted a huge chance to equalise when, from a floated corner Bojan Radulovic dragged his volley wide.
Cardiff continued to look dangerous down the left wing with quick pass and move plays, throughout the first half but after half-time it was Huddersfield who looked sharper and more dangerous.
And the visitors got their reward when Leo Castledine scored a screamer, his first-time finish from a low, driven corner finding the top right-hand corner of the Cardiff net.
The Terriers came close to taking the lead on a number of occasions but it was the Bluebirds who took the lead on the hour mark with a beautiful flowing counter-attack goal. Salech got it, with another simple finish – a downward header from a metre from Cian Ashford’s lobbed cross.
The goal saw Cardiff regain their rhythm and substitute Davies made it 3-1 in the 87th minute, cutting in from the left and drilling into the top corner from just outside the box.
While Huddersfield instantly bit back with a goal by substitute Joe Taylor, Cardiff managed to hold on.
