USW men’s football 2nds fell to Cardiff Met 6ths in a six-goal thriller at the Sport Park.
A quick-fire brace from Ben Feltham and goals from Elliot Humphries and Liam Hillier gave Met the win as Jack Woodhams and Noah Gorochovas pulled two back for the hosts.
The goalscoring began immediately as in the first minute Met striker Feltham was played through, leaving him one-on-one with the ‘keeper before he made no mistake with his finish.
This lead didn’t last long however, as the ball fell under the feet of USW winger Woodhams who put it away to make it 1-1 just three minutes after the opener.
The goals sparked complaints – to no avail – from the Cardiff Met players, as they thought USW’s David Mensah took the ball away from their team illegally.
Met largely took control of the game with multiple chances from corners, and in the 13th minute when Feltham was brought down in the penalty area, he got back up, kept his cool and got his brace from the spot to put his team 2-1 ahead.
Feltham was then denied his hat-trick by the post and Humphries also had a chance to extend Met’s lead before skying it over the bar.
Humphries was on target in the 38th minute when he found space in the USW penalty box to finish clinically.
It was 3-1 to the visitors at the interval and their domination continued in the second half as they had more great opportunities to triple their lead, having an effort disallowed for offside and again being denied by the woodwork.
In the 67th minute substitute Liam Hillier made it 4-1 with a brilliant long range shot.
USW never gave up though, and in the 69th minute won a penalty which was converted by Noah Gorochovas to make it 4-2.
Yet there was no late comeback and USW will now be visited by Bristol’s 5th team next week.
