USW were beaten comfortably by Aberystwyth as they failed to build on an opening day win against Gloucestershire.

The first quarter was evenly-matched. Madi Neye and Kiera Aitken were in fine shooting form for USW, but Belle Walker’s accuracy for the visitors ensured they led 12-10 at the break.

The goals flowed more freely at both ends in the second quarter, but Mallie Davies took over in the scoring stakes for Aberystwyth, bagging 13 goals by the halfway mark to put the visitors ahead 27-17.

And despite lots of energy USW could not prevent Aberystwyth from extending their lead to 39-26 going into the final quarter.

There was early attacking intent from the hosts as the game neared its end, but Aberystwyth soon began to dictate and closed out the victory with some ease, with Walker and Davies’ goals again the difference.

While USW never gave up, the momentum change late in the game was disappointing, as was the fact that the away side finished 19 goals ahead of their opponents.

There could be no real complaints from USW.
