Cardiff City cruised into the semi-finals of the Bute Energy Welsh Cup with a 3-0 victory against New Saints at Leckwith.
Goals from captain Ffion Price, defender Nieve Jenkins and striker Laura Curnock were enough to ensure a comfortable afternoon for the home side.
It was no more than they deserved for their dominance. Cardiff never really looked back after taking the lead in the second minute through Price.
Had it not been for the defiance of Saints goalkeeper Orla Howard the final score would have been even more emphatic.
The home side failed to make territory and possession count after Price’s strike and had to be content with a 1-0 lead at half-time.
But resolute and organised Cardiff defending ensured Saints barely had a sniff at goal.
The closest the visitors came was early in the second half when they were awarded a penalty, but the spot-kick from Lia Lewis missed the target and Cardiff were let off.
Saints did mount some promising attacks but in the 75th minute Jenkins made the game secure with her side’s second goal.
Two minutes later Curnock was on target to put further daylight between the two sides.
Cardiff continued to dominate and did enough to see out the match in relative comfort.
