Cardiff City manager Brian Barry-Murphy lauded the “togetherness of the team” as his side dismantled Mansfield Town 3-0.

Victory was enough to send the hosts back to the top of League One, even without key attacking talisman, Rubin Colwill, who will be out for around 12 weeks with ankle ligament damage.

Despite his absence, Cardiff created the majority of chances and looked superior to the Stags in the attacking third.

Barry-Murphy downplayed his influence on the performance and pointed to the collective effort of his squad as the biggest factor in the success.

He said: “You’re looking for those players who deserve to come in and have a big impact on the team so that was very satisfying for me.

“As long as the players keep performing to the levels that they are in training and in games we can change the team whenever we want and if we win, great, but if we lose then we can make those changes.”

Barry-Murphy was keen to keep expectations realistic, adding: “In this stadium the support we’ve had is incredible and we can see the energy and how quickly it comes when we’re playing well.

“For the supporters who have been behind us so often this season… for them to get a game like today where they can enjoy it and enjoy this evening and be top of the table is very satisfying for us all.”
