USW Netball 2nds manager Meg Jones has insisted her team will recover after an underwhelming start to the season.

Even after a 33-26 defeat to Bath Spa, Jones was full of optimism for the season ahead as she cited the quality of the new group and their ability to grow and build chemistry together as the season progresses.

“We can only go up, we are a brand new team and got a squad of 13 so I can only expect better and I know we’re only going to progress,” said Jones.

However, there was a sense of frustration with the close defeat as USW performed well throughout the game but fell short in the later portion of the game.

Jones said: “A little bit disappointed because I think we should’ve won that and we started really strong.”

Jones was very confident of her sides’ chance in the return fixture against Bath Spa 2nds, she added: “We know who we’re playing against now so the next time we play them we’ll win, I’m sure of it.”

Regardless of the loss, Jones was full of praise for her team as when asked about the difficulties and challenges a coach faces when dealing with a brand new team she said: “It’s quite easy because the girls are quite transparent in what they want off me so if they were quite quiet in terms of what they want off their coaching staff then I would struggle more.

“I’m a really vocal coach and its easy to pick up on things because I’ve been involved in netball for so long so I can see certain things that help me as a coach.”
