USW men’s football 2nd team coach Rob Bailey praised striker Victor Angaye after his hat-trick helped the hosts to a 10-2 win against Cardiff and Vale College at the Sport Park.

It was the perfect tune-up for next week’s BUCS Division 4B opener against University of Gloucestershire, with Angaye very much the standout performer.

Bailey said: “Viktor came in and helped us when we were in a bit of a crisis last year with strikers

“What stands out for me is that the works himself to a standstill for the team every single game.

“This was the first game he’s played (this season) and he played 95 minutes and was lying on the floor he was that tired.

“That is what he brings, relentless work.

“He always shows for the ball, always wants the ball, he brings other players in, he’s hard to mark.

“He’s not a nasty aggressive player, just a strong physical presence.

“And when he is confident he puts the ball in the back of the net consistently.”

Bailey classed the run-out as perfect preparation for the serious business, even though the scoreline emphasised a one-sided contest.

“That was a really good workout,” said Bailey.

“I am glad we didn’t let frustrations kick in after having so many chances and not hitting the back of the net, but we were relentless, we just did not let up.

“We have enough depth of quality this year to challenge.

“This division is there for the taking, there is not any team that we should be frightened of playing.”
