Captain Tate Trivett claimed a second-half hat-trick to steer USW women’s 1sts to a 40 thumping of Essex.
The result sees USW claim four wins from five in the Women’s Premier South Division and keeps them on the tail of league leaders Bristol University 1sts.

The visitors had their first chance seconds after the start of play when a well-worked move from Essex’s midfield led to Alex Penny curling in a right-wing cross which USW defender Marie Kjeldsberg had to head out of harm’s way.

In the 14th minute Ingrid Arland dispossessed Elise Wade in her own half and played a crisp through ball to the charging Trivett who was denied from point-blank range
by Essex keeper Emily Bevan.
Moments later Trivett tested Bevan again, this time from distance. With space on the right edge of the box she cut in-field and fired her strike to the top righthand corner only for Bevan to intervene again with a strong punch.

The visitors had a goal chalked off in the 22nd minute after Avery Hallam came from an offside position to poke the ball past Mackenzie Ellingham.

USW took the lead in the 34th minute. A poor pass from Bevan was swept up by Arland, who fired the ball over Bevan from 35 yards out to put the hosts ahead.

Essex almost replied in the 40th minute when a ball in from Matylda Wasilewska caused chaos for ‘keeper Ellingham, a deflection eventually seeing the ball trickle past the post.

Trivett caused problems all game for the Essex backline, and in the 56th minute she scored her first of the game in style, the USW captain dancing past four Essex defenders and slotting the ball to the right of Bevan and into the bottom corner.

Six minutes later she bagged her second of the day when good work from Megan Waite in midfield created space for Trivett to fire home from the edge of the penalty area.
USW remained on top and extended their lead to 40 with five minutes left Trivett tapped in a rebound from a Maddie Williams strike.
USW Women’s 1s will look to build on this positive result with a short trip to face Cardiff Met Women’s 1sts on the November 13.
