USW netball boss Phillipa Yarranton has set her sights high after overseeing a 100% start to the season by the 1st team.

Yarranton is heading up the university’s elite programme as it attempts to drive up standards and make a real mark in the sport.

It’s so far, so good after wins against Cardiff Met and Bristol in successive weeks.

“We’d love to win the league,” said Yarranton after a 37-35 win against Bristol 3rds at the Sport Park.

“This was a really, really good win.

“I saw some really positive things to take away in terms of what we’ve been working on, but there is also still lots that I want to work on.”

Yarranton, a Welsh international and Netball Super League player with Cardiff Dragons, appears to be making a real difference in her new role.

She added: “Something that we do really well is stick to basics and keep control of the game.

“So we just needed to maintain control through patches where we lost possession, or where a couple of bounces went their way or they scored two goals in succession.”
