EDDIE Hearn was joined by fitness coach, TV presenter and author Joe Wicks for an episode of his podcast ‘Eddie Hearn : No Passion, No Point’.
During the Covid 19 pandemic Wicks began “PE with Joe” on YouTube to try and help children stay active at home. For this, he was awarded an MBE in the 2020 honour’s list.
Wicks discussed his tough upbringing and how going through the tough times has turned him into the successful person he is today.
“My Mum left school when she was 15, living in a squat she met my Dad, had my older brother Nicky and had me when she was 19.
My dad was battling hardcore heroin addiction, it was chaotic and there was a lot of abandonment with no real father figure but the one thing I always had was a good relationship with sport, PE and fitness. It was my therapy in a way.”
Wicks also spoke candidly about how tough it’s been for him during lockdown from a mental health point of view and offered advice to people who are struggling in these tough times.
“I’m not super human, I’m a human being and I have emotions. After Boris announced the second lockdown I was really down and sort of disconnected myself from friends and family.
I know I say it a lot but exercise is the answer for so much of your stress, anxiety and frustration. Form a habit of doing a 20 minute workout in the morning. It changes your mindset and you’ll feel better and you’ll feel more optimistic. Focusing on a goodnight’s sleep will help too. It will help your mood, it will help your stress levels and you’ll make better food choices.
When you’re tired you make bad food choices so the two main things are to sleep well and exercise. Do those two things and the rest will fall into place.”
