GEORGIA Evans has heaped praise on Mark Hutton following her call-up to Wales’ Six Nations squad.
Evans – a Masters Student at the University of South Wales – praised Hutton who is the head coach of her University side in BUCS Rugby.
The 22-year-old has been named in the competitive squad for the first time since featuring in the Autumn International series.
“Mark has been a star. He was one of the reasons I was called up to the Wales squad,” said Evans.
“I owe all my thanks to him and my club coach for getting me where I am.
“Without them, I would have never gone to the Cardiff Blues and have been spotted. I’m forever grateful for what he did for me.”
Evans will have to keep on top of a number of commitments during the tournament.
The Cardiff Blues forward will have to juggle playing her club rugby, alongside her university studies and job.
“It’s a struggle, I think all the girls can relate to it. I’ve got my part-time job, my studies and my coaching.
“It’s something we’ve got to sacrifice in a way, we’ve to manage our time.
“My studies aren’t suffering as of yet though, it’s going well.”
During the autumn international series Evans featured twice as she tried to force her way into Chris Horsman’s squad.
Evans could take to the Cardiff Arms Park pitch in Wales’ opening Six Nations match with Italy on February 2. Other home games at the Arms Park include France on February 23 and Scotland on March 15.
“I think the Autumn series gave the new caps a platform and we had to step up and show what we had.
“It was something you just had to go out there and give your all.
“For me, in the Six Nations I’ve shown them what I can do but now but it’s about pushing myself now and becoming a better player and showing them I want that starting shirt.
“I still pinch myself. The Autumn series still feels like a bit of a dream for me. I’m beyond excited to be involved in the Six Nations, never mind to get a shirt on again.
“I’m looking forward to the 2021 World Cup, that’s something I want and this is the starting for me.”
