THE University of South Wales 1st are looking to open their cup campaign with a win as they face Cardiff University 1st.
USW – who fell to a 19-2 defeat against a strong University of West England Bristol 1st outfit last time out – have only enjoyed one win this season.
But they will be hoping that the cup brings different fortunes.
Their fellow Western Tier 2A rivals Cardiff have also had endured a mixed start to their season, with only one win and three losses in their opening four games.
Cardiff cruised to a 35-5 victory over Royal Agricultural 1st in their only win this term.
Despite their start to the season, USW captain, Hannah Westhenry believes her team-mates can turn their fortunes around.
“Team morale is high,” she said.
“It’s a home game with home support which will make it a close game.
“We’ve got our eyes set on the win but even if it isn’t our game, we will keep our heads up and will be proud of our achievements.
“We have improved our communication and staying in control of the game.
“The team now has the confidence to put strategies into practice.
“We have discovered that if we stay strong in defence, there is no getting past us.”
