THE University of South Wales Men’s 1st turn their attentions to the Vase Cup this week as they take on Loughborough 2nd at Sardis Road after a successful season finishing third in the South A division.
Last week’s 37-17 defeat to eventual champions Cardiff University will prove a huge learning curve for USW as Ben Daniel’s young squad seek some silverware this season.
The Pontypridd-based outfit have selected a strong pack with Beddau product Lloyd Evans replacing Sam Tiley in the second row with Tiley moving to the blindside of the scrum.
A glance at the form guide would suggest the home side should win at a canter, especially after winning eight of their last ten league matches.
Their opponents, Loughborough, have had different fortunes to USW though this season, finishing bottom of the North A division and will be looking to end a six match losing streak at Sardis Road.
USW have only failed to win one match at home this season and will hope the likes of Sion Edwards and captain Gareth Jones continue their fine form in the back row to stop any possibility of a cup upset at the ‘House of Pain’.
