University of South Wales Men’s 3rds take on Plymouth Marjon University Men’s 1st team in what should prove to be a thrilling cup tie. After getting through the last round on a bye, USW will be looking to pick up their first cup victory of the season against a tough Plymouth Marjons side.
Marjons are two divisions above USW in the BUCS Western 2A league but it is USW who go into this cup tie with momentum on their side after two wins and a draw in their last three games – leaving them unbeaten thus far this season. The side showed a lot of heart and determination to gain all three points away to University of Bristol Men’s 4th in their last game with a 3-2 win and they will be hoping to carry that form into this match.
However, their form starkly contrasts the form of their English counterparts. Marjons have lost their last three games, leaving them bottom of their league with no points.
Their last result, a 5-1 away loss to Southampton University 1st as well as the fact that they have conceded 11 goals in three games has highlighted the vulnerability at the back that USW manager Rob Bailey will hope his side can take advantage of this on Wednesday.
USW boast a fully fit squad with star players including tricky forward Mikey Wicherek, midfield maestro Iolo Ap Dafydd as well as solid centre-back Jackson Huxley all looking to carry on their fine start to the season into what should be their most difficult test yet.
